Environmental Activities

Environmental Guideline

Contributing to the environment through activities:to decrease environmental impacts, to prevent global warming and to achieve zero emissions

Approaches to decrease carbon dioxide emissions

Fuel conversion from heavy oil to natural gas

We completed fuel conversion from heavy oil including recycled oil to natural gas in the reheating furnace in March, 2010. This will lead to a significant decrease in Carbon dioxide emissions.

Promotion of modal shift

In the steel business sector, we are making efforts to shift transportation means from trucks to railways as one of environmental measures to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This modal shift contributes to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 70% or even more.

Installation of new stands for low-temperature rolling

Two stands were added to the rolling mill in September, 2010 to achieve low-temperature rolling levels. These additional stands have enabled a further reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and improvements in energy efficiency and product quality.

Approaches to zero-emissions

Achievement of zero-emissions for the fourth consecutive years

The Asahi Industries Group has achieved zero-emissions targets for four consecutive years since March, 2007 when the rotary hearth furnace started to work.

Approaches to a decrease in environmental impacts

Prevention of air pollution

Special emphasis is placed on the prevention of air pollution through improvements in facilities such as the dust collecting equipment and rotary hearth furnace and enhancement of the monitoring system.

Measures against odors

Being fully aware of production friendly to the environment, effective measures have been taken against odors generated during the fertilizer production process: installation of a deodorizing system using soil and a regenerative thermal oxidizer.
